RE

Religious Education is at the heart of our curriculum and our Catholic life. Through our RE lessons, pupils deepen their understanding of God’s love revealed in Scripture and Tradition, learn about the life and mission of the Church, and are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions as they grow in faith and understanding.

At present, we teach RE using the Archdiocese of Birmingham diocesan Scheme of Work, Learning and Growing as the People of God, supporting high-quality learning that is coherent, progressive and rooted in the Catholic tradition.

Preparing for the new Religious Education Directory (September 2026)

The Catholic Education Service explains that To Know You More Clearly is the new Religious Education Directory for Catholic schools. The Bishops’ Conference has directed that, from September 2026, Catholic primary schools in England and Wales will follow the new Religious Education Directory.

To support schools in the Archdiocese of Birmingham with this change, the Diocesan Education Service has been asked to write a new curriculum to be used across the Archdiocese when the Directory comes into effect. The Archdiocese’s new diocesan Scheme of Work is called Discerning Disciples, supported by accompanying resources to help teachers implement the curriculum from September 2026.
