The Blessing of the Bambinelli

This Advent time, all children at St Mary’s took part in the beautiful Italian tradition of the Blessing of the Bambinelli. St John Paul II began this tradition early on in his papacy, when he invited the children of Rome to join him in St Peter’s Square on the Third Sunday of Advent during his Angelus address. He asked the children to bring the little statues of the baby Jesus from their Nativity scenes at home, and he blessed the figurines.

Here at St Mary’s, all children created their own figurine of the baby Jesus in school. We used natural materials such as wood, clay, hay and straw. Then, we took the Bambinelli to Mass during the Third Week of Advent and Father Arul blessed each and every one. Children took the Blessed Bambinelli home, and the Baby Jesus’ arrival in the Nativity scene was made even more special.

Children’s learning log photos…

The launch of this new ‘home learning’ initiative promised creativity, collaboration and celebration, and during our first eagerly anticipated ‘feedback week’ the children’s fantastic learning logs certainly did not disappoint! The buzz of excitement in school this week has been unmistakable as the children in each class shared their unique Learning Logs. They have been truly amazing! Butterfly farm visit

On Wednesday 3rd July 2019, Kingfisher class took a trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon Butterfly Farm as part of our Rainforest topic. We had a fantastic day and absolutely loved being surrounded by thousands of different species of butterfly! Our tour guide, Mark, even let us hold a tarantula at the end! You can see how we felt, judging by the look on our faces! Miss Righton

Galanos House Art Competition

Celebrating Art in Care was the theme for the Galanos House Care Home Open Day. As it was Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29th June 2019, Galanos House challenged groups in the Southam community to create a piece of Art celebrating the theme of Armed Forces/Veterans Day. We relish a challenge here at St Mary’s, so each class busily prepared their competition entry. I am sure you will agree that they are wonderful! The judging has now taken place and I can reveal that 3 of the entries were placed 3rd, 4th and 6th, with the fourth receiving a ‘Highly Commended’ – well done to one and all!

Carnival news and photos

The sun was shining as excited families arrived at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery for this year’s Southam Carnival. Thanks must go to a core group of parents who led the preparations in school for this year’s ‘Holland’ themed float, which looked fantastic. The children looked ‘blooming lovely’ in their tulip-themed hats!

The judges agreed- St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery were awarded 1st place for the third year running!

A special mention goes to Mr Hayes for taking the wheel, and also to Mrs Robinson for preparing such delicious treats for all – a definite sense of team and community!

Gefeliciteerd allemaal!
